Premature Lamentation

Premature Lamentation

By H.R.Bates

I look to you and, instantly, I smile

For every night and day you're here for me

Through every joy and win and common trial

You're a rock to many trapped in this violent sea.

Every day you win some battles and lose too

But despite all this you shan’t be cowed

See, we’re the ones who everyday must fight

This looming shroud. But fight for what?

Why does nature have this way?

This game of Life? I call it quits;

surrender!

Give in? No for that lets it win,

And so’d begin the endless loop

Of loss and loss again. No, instead regroup.

Though nothing is wrong, the future looms

So dark with the right

To remain silent, while hanging

Over all our heads

A lustrous grey and black blur

We lament the time where all is lost.

Where all will be lost. But when? And why?

Our time is ruined by this father bearing over,

cloaked in robes of black and sorrow.

Where is the joy? It must be sought

Though it loses touch with every thought

And every hope and memory we give;

There is still time. How much?

We shall find a way, as per.

Though this time things will not be the same

We shan’t grant nature its chance to maim.
