Life Sentence

Noah Malice

When you're dying, everything is goodbying
Need not worry about retirement plans
Long-term thinking falls out of your hands

When you're dying, people take care to lying
To keep long-term thinking out of your grasp
Like every moment will be your last

When you're dying, family saves their crying
Behind closed doors into each other's sleeves
It's all they can do to prepare to grieve

When you're dying, you spend gratifying
All the desires you have because you haven't got long
Every life goes around and is sung like a song

When you're dying, you spend justifying
All those moments you have not chasing fun
But you can face your fears or live on the run

When you're dying, it's terrifying
All the small things big and big things small
But what would you do if you weren't dying at all?

  • Comment from author about the poem: Wrote this while watching that new CW show, Life Sentence. It's about a cancer patient who is suddenly cured and as a result, her life changes. It's pretty good, everybody in it is attractive.

You make dying sound kind of attractive...... !

It is in a way, it's hardly the worst thing that can happen to you. The big fear comes from not knowing what happens when you finally do.
