The Dangers of Sleepwalking

Echo Seeker

I stare at my trembling hands,

We just heard the news.

A girl was shot in an alley last night.

The class is quiet.

The teachers warn us about,

This new killer on the loose.

The police don't have a lead yet,

There was no evidence left at the scene.

I'm so tired.

I didn't sleep well last night.

~~~~~~~~~
There's another one dead,
This time a boy.
Killed the same way as the girl.
The police say we shouldn't go out at night.
Everyone at school is talking,
About the murders.
They've named the shooter "Night Stalker"
Because he only kills after midnight.
There was blood on my clothes this morning.
I don't want to know how it got there.
~~~~~~~~~

The string of murders continue,

Everyone is scared they'll be next.

Well, everyone except for me,

I'm too tired to be scared.

Ever since the murders started,

I haven't been sleeping well.

Maybe I should get some,

Sleeping pills.

Maybe then,

I can finally get a good night's rest.

~~~~~~~~~
The pills have been working great,
I haven't felt this rested in a long time.
The Night Stalker has been quiet too,
Which is a plus.
I ran out of pills last yesterday,
I can go one night without them, right?
The day ends,
And I slip into bed, and go to sleep.
I start awake,
I'm standing over a dead body again.
Crap.
