My Turn At Bat

My Turn At Bat

I donned a uniform and wore a cap

and grabbed my only baseball bat

I walked and took my place on deck

From home plate a mere few steps

I took my turn at the plate

With butterflies an understate

As the ump used his broom

To clean the plate for strikes there soon

The pitcher was as if a pro

With a blazing fastball throw

That pushed the count to 0 and 2

And me not knowing what to do

I closed my eyes and took a swing

And the hit was a miraculous thing

With me there safe at first

As the king of the universe

I raced around and scored a run

And felt the best under the sun

Helping my team to win the game

As the fans yelled my name
