Club Whitetail

Club Whitetail

The gentle breeze was just right

With the snow shining in the night

And at dawn some crunching steps

As a handsome one ran and leapt

Thrushes rustled in the leaves

On the ground below my tree

Searching diligently for some food

And anticipating something new

And a squirrel climbed up in a fork

On his haunches for support

And shelled a pecan for a minute or two

Then climbed back down for something else to do

Then it was over and all was still

And I was happy to be in nature real

And thankful that we had a club

To tell our stories and eat some grub

My partners were an interesting group

In the world some wearing suits

And in society quite successful

With time outdoors no doubt helpful

And they appreciated their time

Spent in mother nature divine

And always wished they could stay

There for an additional couple days
