Breadcrumbs

Breadcrumbs

I

It started with a vibe of curiosity

Your intriguing words demanded my heed

Your provocative answers to loaded questions

Stirred within me a peculiar need

II

Avid to follow the path you tread

Distracted by your canny use of words

Cloaking the gravity of what lies ahead

 Naively eating words like breadcrumbs

Chorus

Eating the breadcrumbs, you laid so well

Arranged to disguise the story you tell

You can’t see ahead until it’s too late

In over your head will soon be your fate

III

Letting me know only what you want

Each new crumb shed a little more light

Rendering no conclusion, just another query

No plausible events until the next crumb’s in sight

IV

Keenly you lead me in this pattern

Until the picture slowly takes shape

Now the account is fully revealed

I’m in too deep to escape

Chorus

Eating the breadcrumbs, you laid so well

Arranged to disguise the story you tell

You can’t see ahead until it’s too late

In over your head will soon be your fate
