Our Children Will not Bite the Bullet

Our Children Will Not Bite the Bullet

Our children’s lifeblood
Is being mopped up by a political flood
Of earmarked and stained money
Financed by and allocating the very weaponry
That fund-raises constant collateral casualty
All the while loading us up to be electorally ill-advised for the basis of these legislated lies
Shattered lives and body count piled high
Scattered in rat-a-tat-tat
Nothing but money talks chit chat
Repeated and recited governmental guff
Their Congressional rationale
Lacks heart and democratic morale
We shoot down your constitutional bluff
And say enough
When clemency goes first to the gun
And the right to bear arms
Not to the compassioned view of do no harm
Instead of working together
for every citizens sake to not perpetuate. another automatic 911 mistake
Amending our loving arms forever unfulfilled
When our cherished blood is continually spilled, our good ole USA patriotic gun carrying glamour is killed
and in unsighted eyes fades away
Until they finally have their say,
Our children with bullets fused in bone,
Their value now consecrated in mortar and stone will never be laid to rest at such a cost
Hollowed out not healed in remembrance
Of what was lost
Nor in our collective national bereavement
Will they be sanctified
Until their blood shed in vain
Is with principled action justified
Not flag draped with platitudes of appeasement

All who mourn the light leaving loved ones eyes will never be consoled while our bill of rights serves only the exclusive few
We will continue to be 2nd to the surety of safety and security and quality of life
Clasped in a firm trigger hold
The protection and essence of our constitutional law without vital conscience
Will not any way work for us
Until we take stock of their autocratic right
To arm their might
Over the barrel we helplessly fall
By representatives turn turtles all
Deadlocked with their profitable protective shell up In their full bull-it proof nothing vested legislative body
Leaving the rest of us to duck and run
In hands on head mistrust
Placing us in the line of fire
Imperiled by their patronage from Buy the Gun
There will not be enough engraved stone
To bear the burden and the weight
Of our broken lives and hearts
Amassed in a heap
Unconscionably dug down deep
With more than dirt in our eyes we weep
Lacking any accountability or judicial fault
Our futures are grounded to a halt
We are entombed in a precarious state
And shot down to a fixed state

We as an inclusive society and people first democracy should not have to settle for
Packing the pistol
As a bolt-action reaction to their gainful inaction or be prepared to hear
Our final whistle
The future of our precious treasure
Cannot wait for any debated measure
And must never be buried or parried
Or pumped up by any faction
Neither will we turn our backs on political pander that later let’s our children Bite the bullet
We will instead turn to the ballet will all candor
Our conscience must never be laid to rest
We need a call to action to take a stand
And return our fate to our own open hand
Upraised in joy not fear
To hold and uphold all we hold dear-MLH

Yes! I wrote and sent poem to Parkland activist students to their high school. Quite proud of them.

Wow! I was just about to say that this poem should be written on placards or something (although it is quite long, but you get the picture)

    The following lines are brilliant;

" All the while loading us up to be electorally ill-advised for the basis of these legislated lies"

    "Packing the pistol
As a bolt-action reaction to their gainful inaction or be prepared to hear"

You are a great writer and I wholeheartedly agree with your views. I'm from England....Old England where thankfully gun laws are more strict.

    Take care - Syd
