Memories of Yesterday

Nicholas Browning

In the ephemeral moments of life's perturbed struggles,

Through the mourning of its deceased virtue;

Found are many things given away,

And all the less accepted things held true.

Men discover faith, and in turn embrace that fear.

Women lose those foolish thoughts,

And everything else cradled dear.

Through the streets in Summer's reign,

Frolicking about like a bird in its bath.

I've since seen the wonders of its heat;

But all the same I know its wrath.

Acquaintances long forgotten, accolades of time spent wrong.

Feeling out of touch,

Searching for a place to belong.

It once felt as if the atmosphere had pinned me down,

The weight too heavy to bear.

Now it would seem I don't notice it much,

For about else now I'm more aware.

Euphoria was a method, then. Required to feel alive.

It was not "living" that was felt,

But simply a yearning to survive.

Bound in life by many things.

Fate, religion, spirit, regret,

Sadness, despair, happiness, joy.

The lessons each have taught I'm not likely to forget.

Chained in passing are many more.

Every shackle, each and every weight of sin,

Balanced on a scale with the price one pays to learn them.

It is impeccable, if not sorrowful.

To the memories of yesterday I hold dear within my heart:

I've grown to be better, both in mind and in mood.

Sometimes I feel as if it was a good decision,

But still the world shan't begin anew.

To the horrors of my remembrance,

I bid farewell to you.

This reads well beyond your youth...

Reminds me of a feeling I get sometimes

Thanks. Im only 21, but I've learned much. Yeah, there's always that feeling

Great diction for “only 21” and an impressive number of lines for someone of your generation. Keep up the great work!
