Purple Hulls

w c

Purple Hulls

An old Chevy truck

Driving to the patch

Bushels picked and placed

Purple there in the back

Snapped and unzipped

Delicious from a pod

Good times as we sit

Our ambrosia of the gods

Sweating as we work

At the bushel basket

Shelled and in a bowl

That’s the way purple hulls happen

Keep the shells for the goats

In the days grown hotter

Slice tomatoes for your plate

And cucumbers if you’ll bother

Have your jar of chow chow

And poor a glass of tea

Be sure you give a blessing

Thankful for all you eat
