childhood love

theseachild

That little brown haired boy,

With that little dump truck toy.

Who jumped on the trampoline to reach the stars,

Who played with his racetrack flooding with cars.

Who offered to show me how to use a bow,

And asked me what was wrong when I felt so low.

Who's hair was a fluffy mess on his head.

Who owned a small red Volkswagen bed.

Who wore a soccer jersey religiously,

And often acted prodigiously.

Who sometimes will have a fight with me,

But in the end he had my heart's key.

Who moved away six years ago,

Where is he now?

I don't know.

But I was just invited to his niece's birthday,

Oh God, will will I do, what shall I say??

The butterflies are eating at my mind,

How do I act? Do I be kind?

I'm meeting him soon, June is coming is a rush,

What will I do when I meet my old crush?

  • Comment from author about the poem: I had a childhood friend that at the time, had attraction to him. But I didn't know what love really was so I pushed it to the back of my mind. We were bestfriends and didn't even know it. Our parents all came from Bosnia and knew each other before we were even born. Our older siblings went to school together as well, so our family was very bonded until they moved out of state. Now it has been about 6 years, and I saw pictures of him recently and was even invited by his older sister to attend her daughter's first birthday. I don't know if he knows what I look like, let alone remember me so I am just very nervous, but excited. Hope you enjoyed this piece though!!
