Hummingbird Fever

w c

Hummingbird Fever

Frantically he flew around

As the sugar was going down

With a pause to get a view

Of the others sipping too

Quarrels frequently came about

At the feeder’s little spouts

Where they would fence a lot

For the best nectar spots

While hovering their ruby would shine

Iridescent in design

And when perching on a limb

Seconds seemed as hours to them

A nectar bully they all knew

Liked to bully at the feeder too

And would perch at all hours

Rarely leaving the plastic flowers

At evening they all slowed

As their sugar would barely go

Until the day woke them up

In the sun with buttercups
