The Picture I Can't Paint

Edthepoet

Sometimes in my mind
It feels like this
body isn't mine
Even on the dance floor spinning Moving in and out of time

Now n then in my head
I pretend this
really is the end
Looking up at the floor spinning
As the ceiling starts to bend

Why are you just standing there?
Can't you see I need a friend
Does my smile not give it away?

If you stand beside me
Can you hear the words
I can't say
Do you recognise me
Can you see the picture
I can't paint?

Sometimes in my mind
It seems like this
Lifetime isn't mine
Looking at the night sky spinning how did I get here this time?

Now and then in my head
I pretend this
Isn't anywhere
Flying round the sunshine spinning
What does it mean if it's not shared?

Why are you just standing there?
Can't you see I need a friend
Does my smile not give it away?

If you stand beside me
Can you hear the words
I can't say
Do you recognise me
Can you see the picture
I can't paint?

I enjoyed this poem. It was thought provoking, especially the last stanza. Profound!

It has a good rhythm to it too, though I think some punctuation in certain places would make it flow even better.

Thank you Charlotte. It was scribbled as a song lyric, hence the lack of punctuation. I'll try and take that on board though.
