What is real love?
It is not fire
nor burning desire,
nor kisses of lips
or locked fingertips,
nor rainbows of sky
or bright, beaming eyes,
nor tunnels of love
or towers above.
It is the heart's glad cry
among the herons of the marsh.
It is the rush of a wing over the desert.
It is the birdsong in the wasteland.

- Comment from author about the poem: They say that nature is brutal, and they're not wrong. But it is also beautiful, and all the more so because of how fleeting and fragile the lives of the creatures we see. A bird's song/cry is a love letter to the world.
