We determine the strength of a person by their muscles
And the sports they play
We think that strength and maturity comes with age
And that kids can’t be strong and mature
But what we don’t understand
Is that strength isn't determined by any of that
Strength is determined by the experiences someone has gone through
It is the overcoming of obstacles they face
Children are stronger than we think
They go through things they don’t understand
But yet they adapt to change
These sudden changes can affect a kid in different ways
It can affect their emotions and actions
Sometimes this makes kids take out their anger on other people
And when they do
No one wants to be near them
Punishments are nothing but a slap on the wrists
For some, they help them learn
Some, it makes things worse
Some ideas of punishments are ones parents or teachers give to kids
Punishments were taut as the only way to teach kids good from bad
But punishments come in different ways
It can be given through time outs
Or loss of valuables
Silence is the worst type of punishment anyone can get
Silence is being punished for doing something wrong
All the time
When no one wants to be your friend
When no one wants to talk to you
When you are stranded
But you can't help yourself
Because you don't understand why you are like this
But, after time you get tired of being lonely
So you try to change
As hard as it is
It isn’t impossible
It's easy to find a problem
But it’s hard to resolve
Being grown up isn't justified by age
It is justified by the will to be a better person

- Comment from author about the poem: To me it means the struggle of having a dramatic event happening in your life like divorce where as a young child you don't understand the sudden changes. How these sudden changes effect your mood and daily routine and that when it makes you angry sometimes you put that anger on other people which makes no one want to show interest which feels like you are being shunned or blocked out.
