Mother of the Moon

Anasyil

A summer’s night.

Selene blesses me

with such vibrant light.

Mother of the moon,

where thou be?

I search for thee,

yet none could see

thy luminous presence.

I am broken,

but thine knows all.

Mother of the moon

take me away.

My agony, my suffering

the pernicious foe

that left me despondent.

Save me, mother of the moon

from the monster that lurks.

One haunts me more

than any I’ve seen.

She be hideous; she be horrendous

She is the reflection in the mirror.

She is me…

Mother of the moon;

Goddess Selene

Save me… Save me…

Save me from me…

  • Comment from author about the poem: A dear friend and I had an interesting discussion about the goddess of the moon, Selene. Greek mythology is always interesting. The moon has always fascinated me. It is the ray of light in the sky that can never be conquered by darkness. There was a beautiful full moon the other night. I stared into it, took a deep breath, and was lost in thought. At my most vulnerable moments, I look into the moon because I received a calming feeling. After a long reflection, I realized that my worst enemy is my own self. I judged myself too harshly. I set myself unrealistic expectations just so I can prove to the world that I am intelligent. I tried so hard to become the best, I often lose myself. For this poem, I combine my conversation about a goddess with my realization. It was a reflection of my own spirit, and how worn it has become in the end.
