I smile and wave
as the crowd cheers
while my enemies
stared in envy.
Behind my sorrowful eyes
a fragile soul
imprisoned by expectations.
“Prove this, prove that,
being second isn’t the best.”
“Hide your weakness,
hide your pain,
do not break
or be put to shame.”
I smile and wave
as I am being praised
while my enemies
cursed my name.
“Be a leader, be the Queen,
be the kind of perfection
for all to see.
Break, and you lose.
Break, and you falter.
Break, and you become nothing…”
I fell and shattered to pieces.
I stumble and cracked.
I am no great leader.
I am no beauty Queen.
I am no perfection.
I am just me…
In truth, I cannot
meet all expectations.
In truth, I cannot
prove everything wrong.
In truth, I cannot
be the perfect girl
society wishes me to be.
And the truth is
I can only be me…

- Comment from author about the poem: I have finally accepted what I had denied for such a long time. I was so focused on impressing people and proving my enemies wrong that I neglected my own happiness. I was given all these expectations of what I felt it was my duty to fulfill. No matter what I did or how much I accomplished, I was never satisfied. I allowed myself to be pushed by such unrealistic expectations that I ended up breaking myself in the end. At the end of the day, I am me, and I can only be me. No more impressing others or proving myself. I will focus on what I feel is best for me.

Loved this! Such a great write
Thank you!
JUST BE YOU,IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT OTHERS THINK AS LONG AS YOU ARE HAPPY WITH YOU.
I WAS THE SAME WAY UNTIL I FOUND THE LORD.MY FAMILY STILL TRY TO CHANGE ME,BUT I TELL THEM THAT I AM WHO GOD HAS MADE ME AND I'M NOT GOING TO CHAANGE FOR ANYBODY.I AM HAPPY WHO I AM AND THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS.WHO NEEDS THE STRESS OF PEER PRESSURE.NOT ME.
Thank you so much! I'll start being just me from now on!
DON'T LET ANYBODY TELL YOU WHO TO BE OR THAT YOU ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH.YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL PERSON INSIDE AND OUT.
Thank you!
