Hay Meadow

Hay Meadow

As the grass dried in the sun

We took a break and had some fun

Where the cows gave a moo

Happy to see the grass there too

Hawks perched above the field

To land upon with talons steel

On mice scurrying here and there

With their homes beyond repair

And a fawn found his legs

And raced away where he could beg

To suckle on his grateful mother

Far from blades and meadow cutters

Stalks of goat weeds did remain

Where mourning doves filled with grain

And other weeds grew there too

Where the meadow was still new

The grass was bound in big round bales

Wrapped in twine there in the dell

And the hay was put in a row

Where the tractor would come and go
