The strength of Woman

G84

Seeing you at the mercy of pain,

Yet still fighting nothing in vane.

A power comes forth, older than time.

Instinctive strength, performing as designed.

In complete awe, I finally understand,

The strength of a woman, lies not in her hands.

It is in every fibre, of her soul and being,

She is already equipped, for this miracle I am seeing.

Life writhes in her womb, our daughter fights too.

Never in my life, have I been so in love with you.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I am quite literally sat in the delivery suite, at 2am uk time. My wife is managing to get some rest and I expect from as early as 04:30am the final stages of labour will begin for our first child and daughter to be born. I like to think I’ve experienced a lot for my age (34) good and bad, but never have a witnessed the true strength of a woman until today. No practice no guidance no Instruction just pure instinctive raw strength to get through what I can only imagine is the most painful feeling in earth I am well and truly in complete awe and have a new found respect for my wife and women as a whole.
