Pulling Away (+3)

Kurt Philip Behm

At eighteen,

 I was ninety percent body

 and ten percent mind

…but over the years that trend has reversed

Now,

 I’m ten percent body

 and ninety percent mind

…whose biology Father Time chose to curse

My mind

 is now winged

 like a high soaring hawk

…with youth the small price for what’s known

All limits

 have lifted

 old burdens have gone

…as my spirit pulls hard to let go

Keeping Freedom Alive

It’s a comedy of errors…

  the clowns and actors inside

When for two millennia,

they served to amuse and abide

The patriots and righteous

 once made all the laws

But now the Halls of Congress

 by their presence are flawed

Through political correctness,

the blind pretend that they see

With our future in peril,

 they laugh at our pleas

A carnival sideshow

 they make of the truth

As the press and the movies

 back up what’s uncouth

They lie in our face

 with the darkest of plans

Their excuses in concert

  now leading the band

Like the rats in the cellar

and the bats in the barn

To the hills we must drive them

where they can do no more harm

And the power repositioned

among the brave and the wise

Who care first for their country

  —keeping freedom alive

Time Stops At Your Door

Being more than a woman…

 your vision enraptured

making me more than a man

Being more than a woman…

 my thoughts solely focus

 doing all that I can

Being more than a woman…

my days are too long and

 our nights are too short

Being more than a woman…

 my ceiling is raised

 with new feelings to court

Being more than a woman…

  my virility strengthened

  my bravery charged

Being more than a woman…

 all pettiness gone

 with my choices enlarged

Being more than a woman…

 your breath is on fire

 your touch turns to gold

Being more than a woman…

 new promises to keep

 vows to never grow old

Being more than a woman…

 past-future rejected

 time stops at your door

Being more than a woman

 our love you’ve protected

 —and released ever more

Love As Wings

You can take the verses with you,

  but false riches stay unrhymed

With love as wings, to heaven brings

  —your gold all left behind
