She Ain't No Slapper / Don't Throw Me Back

Noah Malice

She Ain't No Slapper

Who would have thought something as silly as this

Seven million years of refinish this fish

Just to be captured to be sold in a shop

It's a silly fate but that's the way the fish flops

And who could have written something so absurd

Seven billion people and this one hungry bird

With her talons tightly gripping as she gives me the chase

That poor trout I fear is coming for my face

Don't Throw Me Back

Safely latched in the strength of hungry jaws

And torn through my side like worn-out cloth

I rest in the mouth of a graceful heron

This is rough but it hurts like heaven

There must be way more worse ways to go

It don't matter now I don't want to know

If this heart keeps beating it'll break my ribs

I can't write any harder with this delicate nib

  • Comment from author about the poem: These two poems have a sort of similar theme, although they differ in tone a bit. Still, I thought it was appropriate to post both of them together. The linked artwork was done by Cristiana L. in response to She Ain't No Slapper, and Don't Throw Me Back was written in response to the artwork.
