She gave a lot of thought as to which café to use

To meet a stranger and talk about literary things –

What better place she thought, than the les Editeurs

On the rue de Conde, in the intellectually tinted Latin Quarter,

With its five thousand books to keep you company

And an ambiance to stimulate intellectual thought and debate.

Always a punctual woman, she arrived on time

He was late and apologized with a very lame excuse

But she liked his demeanour and forgave him instantly.

His lateness didn’t matter as she had other matters on her mind.

They sat on the red seats that adorned the café and chattered,

Relaxed and at ease as though they had been lifelong friends.

He had read and studied her poems and was highly impressed.

He and his company were considering publishing and promoting them

But were uncertain, if published, they would be commercially viable.

He was glad he had suggested the meeting so he could meet her

And see who was behind the passionate and thought-provoking words.

She read three of her poems she though best suited the occasion.

He wasn’t disappointed but surprised by the eloquence of her recitals

And the self-confidence she radiated with a calm and assured manner.

As she read out her poems she didn’t realise, he was there for another reason,

That he was to impart something that would transform her life.

He informed her of the decision taken by his publishing house

That they were willing to take a risk and publish a collection of her poems.

It  was not just the beginning of her budding literary career and fame

But the blossoming of an unexpected romance with her publisher.

After their first meeting at les Editeurs they were hardly seen apart.

She would never had thought, as she scribbled her poems over the years

That they would lead to the love she’d spent so long searching for,

That the end result of every poetical word written, led to love.
