up at the plate
we stand ready, if we be lucky
maybe we get walked
once in a while
but more likely, we\'re granted a shot
to bunt or steal a little happiness
and we watch, us others
fail to progress, past their fated innings
knowing, we too
probably won\'t last the full nine either
let alone any extra
so, best
to soak-up each gruelling minute
at this our only guaranteed, chance
of experiencing life
