The Grapes of Wrath is the the best of Steinbeck's novels. J.S had won the Pulitzer Prize for the year (1940). Steinbeck remains one of America's most significant twentieth-century writers. I like reading his novels and this one in partucular.
Steinbeck is undoubtably one of the most gifted writers in the western world, and if taken just on his writing prowess then this book is indeed astounding. But if you're looking for a happy ending, this isn't the book for you. It is more of a political statement through narrative: which was, at the time, an exceedingly important thing. I am pleased I read it- but definitely not an easy read nor something to read on a casual quiet Sunday!
