Of a Ministry pitiful, angry, mean,
A gallant commander the victim is seen.
For promptitude, vigour, success, does he stand
Condemn'd to receive a severe reprimand!
To his foes I could wish a resemblance in fate:
That they, too, may suffer themselves, soon or late,
The injustice they warrant. But vain is my spite
They cannot so suffer who never do right.

Comments2I love the line "They cannot so suffer who never do right" - such a powerful message!
Wow, just finished this one by Jane Austen and it really got me thinking. She's known for her novels but her poetry packs quite a punch too! 🤯 It's clear she's not mincing her words about the leaders of the time. It's very raw and thought provoking. Didn't know she wrote like this. Some things never change, huh? 🤷♀️ Austen really knows how to get a point across! Madden me a bit, but also made me think, you know?
