The Epicure

Abraham Cowley

 Next Poem

FILL the bowl with rosy wine,
Around our temples roses twine.
And let us cheerfully awhile,
Like the wine and roses smile.
Crown'd with roses we contemn
Gyge's wealthy diadem.
Today is ours; what do we fear?
Today is ours; we have it here.
Let's treat it kindly, that it may
Wish, at least, with us to stay.
Let's banish business, banish sorrow;
To the Gods belongs tomorrow.

    HONESTLY THIS POEM HAD ME CONFUSED. I HAD TO READ IT A FEW TIMES BUT STILL DON'T GET THE HYPE. IT'S ALL ABOUT WINE AND ROSES AND STUFF BUT I DON'T GET WHY IT'S SO IMPORTANT. THE WHOLE THING KINDA FEELS OVERRATED TO ME. LIKE, I GET THAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE ALL DEEP AND INSPIRATIONAL OR SOMETHING, BUT VERY DENSE FOR MY LIKING. TOO MUCH FANCY WORDS AND NOT MUCH SENSE TBH. SORRY, BUT I'D RATHER BE DOING MATH PROBLEMS THAN READING THIS. JUST MY 2 CENTS LMAO.
