If I should cast off this tattered coat,
And go free into the mighty sky;
If I should find nothing there
But a vast blue,
Echoless, ignorant --
What then?

And go free into the mighty sky;
If I should find nothing there

Comments1I remember coming across this Stephen Crane poem when I was younger, and to be honest, I didn't like it that much. It's quite short and doesn't really evoke strong emotions or imagery for me. I appreciate that Crane is a classic and well-respected author, but this particular piece just doesn't do it for me.
