The Bell Rings

Grey-heart

The bell rings, the messenger speaks,

For the words hit hard, and my entire world shakes,

Then, the waters rain down my cheeks,

And thus, my beating heart aches.

A spanner jams the gears of my chest,

The riveting lines tighten, tension forces through,

My heart thunders without rest,

Until it is ripped in two.

My conscience is only grieving,

As there is no other, nor would I prefer,

How could I go on believing?

That she’d ever love me as I love her.

I have no comfort, I have no sympathy,

So the moment my tears run dry,

I’ll return to the place where the memories lie,

And there, finally say goodbye.

      What a beautifully sad lament

Many thanks. I don't know if you spotted, but the opening is a metaphor for receiving a text message

I thought of the metaphor when I read 'the messenger speaks'
Could be olde world or electronic.
