My Rabbits

My Rabbits

I once had a couple of rabbits

When I was just a boy

There were my responsibility

And caring for them I enjoyed

I used some rabbit wire

On a cage that I built

And my father and granddad admired

It sturdy and on some stilts

Mine were very special rabbits

And were real prizes to own

I entered one in the county fair

And a blue ribbon I brought home

My rabbits enjoyed getting carrots

And lettuce regularly too

Nibbling at what I provided

Each morning and afternoon

Soon there were baby rabbits

Furry and cute as could be

And I was a boy very happy

With the little family

Ahh, I knew I was going to like this. And then you soon had 200 rabbits?! heehee. Same with guinea pigs. They only take about 9 weeks for a new batch, and can have 5 or more at a time! Our four have luxury - never lived outdoors, certainly not overnight in winter. We have one cage with 2 males, and another cage with 2 females.

Thanks, orchidee. My rabbits very special to me. I'm not sure which came first, the rabbits or my dog, but I loved them all dearly. At times i would let the rabbits out to hop around the yard, but i had to make sure my dog was not around to chase them.

Rabbits can make good pets, but they can really scratch you with their powerful back legs if you're not careful when holding them.
