A Fishing Trip

A Fishing Trip

I got up at 4 to start the trip

And the moon and stars were bright

I was excited more than a bit

To fish in the little skiff

With my granddad that I liked

We arrived at the lake

And soon wet our lines

And planned to stay fishing all day

Trying our luck come-what-may

Until it was supper time

When the fishing trip was done

We had fish to clean

And I was the one

To get it done

With filets we could eat

The cook to our delight

Prepared the perfect meal

With fish fried in batter light

As she’d done many times

And did so with great zeal

The evening ended there

With a fishing tale or two

With some there unprepared

To hear granddad cuss and swear

That the tales he told were true

Those tales of fishing are so true, "You should have seen the size of the one that got away!"

Yes, the one that got away is always the biggest.
