A Good Friend and the Fair-Weather Kind

Jim Yates

A Good Friend and the Fair-Weather Kind

A good friend will never let you down

They will laugh and cry with you

And be there when the need be.

Even if you argue or disagree with them,

They will never desert or leave you alone.

They will be there to share your laughter

To comfort you in your sorrow and suffering,

To celebrate and share your success and achievements

If illness strikes they will ease your pain

And help restore you back to health again.

When your heart is broken they will embrace you

With their love and friendship, help mend it

When you are down and out they will be there to lend a hand,

To dust you down and get you back on your feet again,

A good friend is a soul mate, a friend for life.

The friend who is the fair-weather kind

Will only take from you and never give in return.

When the going gets tough they will wilt on the vine

In your success they will be envious and deride your achievements

If you are ill they will be nowhere to be seen.

If you are on your knees, they will leave you there,

If your heart is broken, they will walk away.

Once they take what they want and need from you

They will disappear like a ghost in the night

Hopefully, never to be seen or heard of again.

A friend is a friend and always will be.

The fair-weather kind will always be just that,

Fair-weather, and not worth your time of day.
