It's Good To Be Back On The Road Again.

kevin browne

And by the time she arrives back home
I'll be drinkin', sat somewhere smokin'
It'll be the last thing that I've done wrong
I'll be leaving everything I've ever had
Then I'll make my move and I'll be gone
It's good to be back on the road again
I started travelling, met some new people
With the Johny Walker whiskey running high
Quite simply, quite easily life is quite sweet
And the ladies from West Virginia light up
And rub half the world against their thigh
In the smell of good old London's dirty town
There is compassion, but find it old-fashioned
In the suburbs where kids are free to roam
Filthy water, gasping air is just a normal day
In India, I found a way out from the nasty smell
Independence, for there, was no empty homes
It's good to be back on the road again
The Sahara and its sunshine with a smile
That left me red and burned out on the floor
There's other places that make you walk a mile
Fancy this, fancy that, but forests have a trick
Tribes and trees full of leaf that have never seen
All the cities with people drunk on themselves
Though Italy has it's flavour of famous wines
I drank too much and thought of where I'd been
If you've discovered me along with your ways
Then I'll be thinking about love for the rest of time
Sat down in China, in a bar, thinking I'd find her
But millions and millions of people who I knew
Told me she'd be thinking and waiting too
But, my passion told me to keep moving on
It's good to be back on the road again
Bombay is full, Thailand too, but into Bali
Where I folded up the ocean and rinsed it out
Fish were flying, starfish shining on a seabed
Chimpanzee, I had a twin, now I know I'm not dead
Up in the trees where I made my little home
I took the offer, and now since time has gone
I flew to Paris, walked to Argentina and Peru
Brazil was nuts, thieving knew how to hide
Highness is higher and the addicts knew it too
I swam the sea across to Africa, I set sail
Stroke after stroke I saw the sharks and the treasure
Towards when I found where my heart is now
On a land so big between the pain and the pleasure
Now Summers nearly over I'll have another one
In a place where the light keeps shining on
And God has mentioned leaving those fish alone
But, there again Heaven is a place I've never gone
It's good to be back on the road again.

    Kevin,

Glad youā€™re on the road again! Youā€™ve taken me around the globe with your great poem! Awesome!

    ~Laura~

P.S. - Iā€™m enjoying your poetry book very much!

    • kevin browne

I'm a dreamer so I can take you anywhere you want to go, Lorna. I'm happy you enjoyed the global trip. We'll do it again someday no doubt. Aw, bless you reading my book. For my first attempt, it didn't turn out too shabby. Thanks again for your support.

      • LaurašŸŒ»

No, itā€™s not shabby at all! Totally the opposite!

N.B. - this is Laura...youā€™ve confused me with my beloved MPS sister!šŸ˜‰

Yes you got me too Kevin....... this completely drew me in ... I love "on the road" thoughts - we used to travel a lot (but not to such exotic places) - I always loved getting into the truck or car very early and watching the sun come up as we drove the highways...... it felt so free! My brother is more like this poem - he goes all over the world looking for adventures. Great poem/story.

Exotic places are mostly fictitious imaginations in our dreams. Such few people get to experience the closest thing to Heaven, which I guess must be paradise. I dream and write about places I've never been to, but that doesn't stop my mind from not being there. There's a relationship between human life, for example, you, your brother and, of course, the great Willie Nelson. Thank you for such a wonderful comment.

          Kevin,

The two Ls are coming at you...in alphabetical order no less! LšŸ˜ŠL

Omitted to tell you that your write reminds me of Willie Nelsonā€™s song, ā€œOn the Road Againā€!

Just listened and read the lyrics for 'On The Road Again' and now I can see what you mean. A great song too. The two Ls are certainly on form today.

The mind travels in so very many places Kevin, shall we share a Johnny Walker on Saturn as we travel towards eternity.

I don't drink, but for this occasion, I'll have a double straight.
