Nothing’s what it seems

The Retired Bloke

There’s a smile on your face

Hiding the pain

Lurking underneath

Nothing’s quite what it seems

On scraping the surface.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Yesterday it was National Poetry Day in the UK. The official website asked for poems of less than 20 words. This is what I came up with. The thinking behind this poem is that Social Media promotes a certain kind of image with poses and smiling faces. However these pictures disguise real lives where everyone has to deal with everyday stresses of daily life.
