My Parakeet

w c

My Parakeet

My parakeet escaped

As I cleaned his cage one day

He flew through an open door

On wings he’d barely used before

In a flash he was gone

Having flown to my lawn

Where at the top of a tree he found

Other birds perched around

Soon my bird knew

That it was easier when I fed food

And that perched high in a tree

Was not the place he should be

While I hid he came down

And perched a while on the ground

Still searching for his seed

That he always got from me

After a while he grew tired

With his cage the thing desired

And he let me capture him

And put him in his cage again

My bird now sings all day

Feeling fine in his cage

Having learned that to be free

Is not what it’s cracked up to be

I London, and other areas of the UK there are many escaped parakeets that are now breeding and form flocks. I have seen them in Hyde Park.

That's interesting. I know there used to be flocks of parakeets in the South Carolina area here in the US. I know Florida is the center of pet escapes, though i don't think they have an problem with escaped parakeets.
