Tune: The Supreme Sacrifice

('O valiant hearts')

*********

Annual remembrance, we recall again

All who in wars, all children, women, men

They took courage, though they in fearful straits

Then gave you thanks and praise when war abates

O grant us peace, deep in our hearts within

Christ is that peace, He cleanses us from sin

Makes peace 'tween God and man, too man and man

Bring prevailing peace as only He can

Here be thoughts sentiments, expressed in love

Come Holy Spirit, heal us, holy dove

From darkness, fear, the ravages of war

Bring in your kingdom's peace from shore to shore

For evil, conflict ne'er has final word

For you e'er remain, the Almighty Lord

Both generally and specifically

You work, though we finite, we not all see

Hearts sadnesses you know, Man of Sorrows

Holding to bitterness, it only grows

But forgive we pray, renew and restore

With you we desire that war be no more

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 10.10.10.10. metre. The hymn is maybe not heard so much these days. There's a controversial verse in it (not in the clip) about 'our lesser Calvaries'. But it's said there can be no such thing. Our human sufferings and sacrifices cannot save in the same way as Christ has uniquely done at His cross on Calvary.

Sorry - he really should step in and walk the walk and stop all the war nonsense......

Well, yes - though we have free will also - maybe that's part of the cause of wars...
