Oublier

Hesther

The darkening of the sky is a defibrillator to the lamps,

They choke and splutter to life with amber light.

The evening is clam, the last of the sunlight drifts behind clouds...

But suddenly, rain explodes out of nowhere and I am caught in the moment.

People shriek and wrap their heads,

Dash for the nearest shelter, their thoughts of shopping momentarily forgotten.

Abandoned pizza boxes once sat damp, now slump rain-slogged.

Wet socks in wet shoes clatter hastily;

I can smell burgers and taste tictacs on my breath.

The street sits empty as silver pennies drop in thick globs

As I stand, unbelieving of the sky's betrayal,

Before you pull me close under the cover of ten year old scaffolding.

We stand, shivering unanimously,

And wait for the rain to pass.

    Another great work.

    A fine write H. I've seen an 'oublier' (a 'forgetter') in a former Jail, that is now a Chapel. It's a basement area under a board in one corner of the building, where they used to throw prisoners down, and maybe then, for the most part, forget them.

      I named this poem oublier due to the fact it's the french word for 'to forget' and as the poem is about a forgotten moment, it seemed fitting. thank you for the context on oublier though 🙂
