Who are you? And who am I?
It depends on which side we’re on in the mirror
On the front is the picture we give to the world
On the back our true nature and image are clearer
I see a classy man with prowess and admirers
You see a man that’s busy installing fixtures
On your side, you’re a builder whose task is designing
But I see a man who wastes his time drawing pictures
The true secret of life is to bring both sides together
That the part on the outside coincides with the inner
If you have sufficient to buy a new suit and Berlutis
Then display love and kindness and don’t worry about dinner
Love and kindness are priceless, they are virtues unrivalled
Clothes and wing-tips are pricey and worth less once they’re purchased
They say, “Clothes make the man”, but I think they’re mistaken
On the back of the mirror the honest and faithful come first

- Comment from author about the poem: There are a lot of people in the world who dress a certain way or put on a facade when they first meet someone, but once the acquaintance is made you find out that the outside doesn't match the inside. It's like the person has two different personalities.

We all put on masks to face the different aspects of our life - who really knows who we are?
Very true, but the best relationships I know are between friends who are honest with each other and accept one another in spite of differences... and let the mask down so they can be seen as they really are- the poem really refers more to those who pretend or claim to be more than they are.
Very true, real friends see you as you are warts and all.
The less warts the better though!
like if you see a bald man, you have an idea about him. if he had long hair your idea of him would be different.
Very true, but the best relationships I know are between friends who are honest with each other and accept one another in spite of differences... the long hair just shows the ‘outside him’ and not what he is on the outside. We need to take the time to get to know them - then we’ll know if the outside and matches the inside- and it helps if they’re honest and try to ‘put one over on you’
Sadly true of most people i think.
The poem challenges us to be different and be more honest with one another
