Costa

The Retired Bloke

Cupping my coffee

At Costa Coffee

Watching people

Normal people

Some in deep conversation

Others sitting all alone

Some waiting patiently

Some passing the time of day

Watching life pass them by

A lady with her latte

Skimming through the dailies

A businessman delving

Deep into his attaché

A family meeting

With baby bawling

Others trawling through

Social Media

Phone in hand fixated,

Isolated in their own little world

A couple share a precious moment

Gently she strokes her coffee cup

Lovingly he stares into her eyes

Old and young are gathered today

It’s interesting to watch the world at play!

Yes TRB, I see those people four or five times a week as I sit in Coffee #1 with my wife and as Lawless said I write about them continually. Sometimes I write the poem in the coffee bar and give them to the person that I write about - nobody has hit me yet!

Hi just noticed this comment...you are very brave. However I was reading some of my poems in a pub a few weeks back and the girl on the next table seemed interested. To cut a long story short I ended up reading some poems to her and her boyfriend...quite strange. PS I had drunk a beer or two!

It is amazing how people react to poetry, I always seem to have positive feedback from those in the Coffe Bar. The manager refers to me now as the ‘Poet in Residence,.
