Where Have All The Kids Gone?

The Retired Bloke

Where have all the kids gone?

Grown up before their time?

They don’t want to be a cygnet

Would rather be a swan!

Is this down to pushy parents?

Wanting their kids to fulfil

Their unaccomplished dreams

Before becoming adolescents

There seems no time to be a child

To play with toys unplugged

To enjoy life without responsibility

To do things wonderful and wild

We cheer at kids who can sing

Like divas or pop superstars

We marvel at their maturity

The potential wealth they’ll bring

Give kids the air to breathe free

Don’t suffocate them with ambition

Deprive them of their childhood

For they’ll achieve what you can’t foresee.

Sadly we make them grow up too quick. Guidance counselors try to pin them into career paths when they're 9 etc. Maybe Santa Claus can give them back their youth for Christmas this year. Good poem.

So very true, we push kids too hard, encourage them, yes - push them, no
