Tune: Sussex
(one tune to 'Father, hear the prayer we offer')
Matthew 2 v.12-18
Holy Innocents Day - Dec.28th
********
Wise men the Christ-child they had seen
Full of wonder it had been
For them Him to see, but now they
Must be going on their way
A warning from God in a dream
They had, not all as did seem
For King Herod in false pretence
Would locate the young child thence
But his plans were to Him destroy
He was outwitted, his ploy
Mocked of wise men, in a rage he
Ordered death of children, see
All boys under two years who in
Beth'lem were, or near therein
Were to be killed, bitter mourning
Heard there voice of lamenting
Though was as Jeremiah had said
Parents found their infants dead
Rachel, Israel's mother-figure
Weeping in such great horror
Unconsolable, and would not
Be comforted, for their lot
Had been of their dreadful laments
Slain their Holy Innocents
Give us grace to do just, rightly
Where oppression we may see
That good triumph over evil
Your kingdom come, your good will

Good always triumphs over evil but sometimes it takes its time.
Thanks Gold.
The constant battle we all face in our lifetime. The good will always outweigh the evil.
Thanks Simon.
Thanks UNCLE STEVE ~ Love the Hymn ~ Prayer is an awesome and oft understated POWER. An excellent Poem on a very very sad occasion. SATAN always turns a time of "Peace & Goodwill to Men" to a time of "Weaping & wailing and gnashing of teeth" BUT His days are numbered ! There were attempts to kill or capture JESUS but according to God's Sovreinity & Prophecy ~ JESUS died in just the right way ~ time & place ~ to REDEEM the Human Race ~ AMEN ~
Blessings for 2019 Brian & Angela 🧡🧡🧡🧡
Thanks B&A. Yes, Jesus as a 'holy innocent' suffering too.
you dont hear of many Herod's these days do ya... makes ya wonder why, dunnit...
Yes N. There are some monsters about though, even if not persecuting children.
there are indeed.. we had the county contract for the violent patient and those struck off by their GP's and folk with various types of personality disorder... a lot of my work was undertaken in HMP's too... several serial killers but never came across a Herod though....
