Governing God

orchidee

Tune: Herongate

('It is a thing most wonderful')

Psalm 67

*********

God be merciful to us, bless

Us, for we your good name confess

And cause your face to on us shine

In beams of love and grace divine

So that your ways on earth be known

Your saving health to all be shown

Among all nations, let all praise

Your wondrous name, and fresh songs raise

O let the nations all be glad

In you, sing for joy, not be sad

For you shall govern righteously

All peoples, just, equitably

Yes, let all people, you God, praise

In melodious tones all days

The refrain echo, shall not cease

Your kingdom of love, joy, and peace

So then shall earth yield her increase

God shall bless the land and release

His dews of blessings, all shall be

In awe of Him, His goodness see

Thanks B&A. It's the 'Deus Misereatur' - Erm, that well-known Latin title (to some Anglicans!), one of a set of Psalm-type pieces selected for some Evensongs. No wonder they may be known by heart. They could be sung in the same churches by long-standing members for 50 years or more! Argghh, I want SOME variety!
