SHE WILL NEVER WALK AGAIN

ruthdeming

At her retirement home
she's now confined to a wheel chair
what's left of her, anyway,
a marionette without a brain

Might it happen to you or me?
They say life is sacred.
Music will comfort her.
Play the Appassionata Sonata
loud and clear. Her mysterious
plaque-filled brain will shrink
some more until she's a hollow
pumpkin shell.

WELCOME RUTH ~ Thanks for your first Poem which I enjoyed because you tell it like it really is ~ and pose the QUESTION "Might it happen to you or me ?" Statistically the answer is YES unless you DIE before you are 70 !
I'm 35 (Angela my Fiancee is 30) so weve (theoretically) got more than 30 years to raise a Family ~ and enjoy life together ! I teach 18 - 40's so I dont see many 70+ except at our Pensioners Club (Silver Surfers) at College who (in the main) are "good for their AGE !". In our Church & Extended Familes we have several who have outlived their Physical & Mental Faculties and (as you say in your Poem) it is very sad to see them in their decline. In my PRIVATE PRAYERS I ask the LORD to take them Home to Glory to relieve them of their Pain & Senility ! ANGELA is a Physiotherapist & a Masseuse so her JOB is keeping People of all ages Active & Supple. People in Retirement Homes love her visits for Music & Movement ! MPS works by mutual reading & commenting ! Please visit our SITE ! Angela is currently on a Work Exchange in New Zealand ! Yours BRIAN (UK)

Thanks so much for writing, Brian! Are you a fan of The Life of Brian? I sure am. Angela must be enjoying her trip to the Kiwi Nation! Kiwi fruit, as we call them, were introduced maybe 20 yrs ago in the US. Highest Vit C count of most fruits, altho I love drinking orange juice. Tally ho!!!

THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONSE RUTH ~ COMMENTS SHOULD BE A DIALOGUE ! I love \"Life of Brian\" it s a parody on the Life of Jesus but it raises some issues about the identity of JESUS ! Some just rated Him as \"The Carpenters Son\" ~ The majority of JEWS did not recognise Him as the Messiah ! Today over 2 billion People accept (by Faith) that He is the \"Son of God\" and an integral part of the TRINITY Father ~ Son ~ Holy Spirit ~ AMEN Christmas ~ Easter & Films like The Life of Brian arise the awareness & debate of WHO IS JESUS ? We call the N Z Nationals KIWI\'s and the Native New Zealanders (Polynesisans) MAORIS ! Like Native Americans they are a very intersting Culture within NZ ! KIWI FRUIT taste fantastic (eaten raw when ripe !) and I have visited KIWI FRUIT FARMS in N Z ! The KIWI is also a flightless Native Bird of N Z. There is however a KIWI Airline ! Thanks for your comment ~ BRIAN (UK) & ANGELA (NZ) Thanks for being our MPS Friend ~ B & A !

Welcome to this friendly poetry site Ruth - - your first poem makes a heart-rending read and reminds us of the many who are confined to a state of dementia - - -the question you pose in the verse is something we all want to ask when visiting care homes - hoping your friend is still able to find music a comfort . Thanks for sharing and look forward to reading more of your work.

Fay, thank you for your lovely note. I will see if you've written any poems. I have just written a true story and will post it on another free site. And THEN I've got to do some real work! Have a lovely day, slender Fay!

So true, I am seeing this happen to my wife and her dementia.

My heart goes out to you! Every year I donate to the Alzheimer's Foundation, here in the USA.

Very intriguing first write, explicit yet simple and real. Keep up the great work.
