My Dark Dreams

My Dark Dreams

The sandman always came

When I rested well

And I thought it a shame

That after him was hell

When my sleep was deep

There was evil everywhere

And I tried to break free

From the ones that scared

Demons that I saw

Were gargoyles come to life

And they troubled me most of all

In the dark of the night

Some nights I suffered greatly

With the devil himself my foe

Though his trident lately

Cannot pierce my soul

These days I awake

From a pastoral scene

And I’m no longer afraid

With angels there for me

Again my sleep is good

With no nightmares at all

And the hell I’ve withstood

I can barely recall
