Prophesied Preparation

Tune: Picardy

('Let all mortal flesh keep silence')

Revelation Chapter 15

*********

John did see great sign in heaven

Marvellous, angels seven

Having bowls of seven last plagues

They prepared now for this stage

In them the wrath of God if filled

Time comes, His anger not stilled

Then he saw sea of glass mingled

With fire, and then out-singled

Those who had gotten victory

Over the beast, image, see

And over his mark, his name's number* (666)

They not with evil concur

They stood on the sea of glass clear

Having harps of God, now hear

Song they sing, the song of Moses

Servant of God, same one this

And song of the Lamb their melody

Great, marvellous, He e'er be

And His works great, He the Lord be

God Almighty, ever we

Sing, say, Just and true are His ways

Unto everlasting days

He the King of saints, and who shall

Not fear Him, His glories tell?

For He is only holy, all

Nations shall come, on Him call

And shall worship before Him, for

His judgements manifest sure

Then sanctuary in heaven opened

It was as if sky did rend

Seven angels from God's Temple

In heaven come forth, no stall

Having the seven plagues, wearing

Pure white linen and sparkling

Their chest girded bright with golden bands

With bowls of plagues in their hands

Then the Temple it filled with smoke

Glory of God, no revoke

And His power, so none able

To stand, all before Him fall

None could enter Temple, God willed

Till seven plagues were fulfilled

* The 'beast' is thought by some to be an anti-God state,

and the 'image' to be anti-God religion.

The 'number' is 666 - the Anti-Christ, never reaching 7,

the 'number of God', of perfection, wholeness, etc.

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.7.8.7.8.7. metre. The original hymn is said to have been for Holy Communion, when the bread and wine were brought forth, and no human sound or voice should disturb the reverence and awesomeness of this. This is more likely to be so in High Churches these days. We don't need it so solemn or 'heavy' though, that it seems unapproachable, as the invite to Communion is for all people.
