Withdrawal

SerenWise

Electricity fizzing

Through tortured veins,

Blood is pulsing,

Gushing

Throbbing...

I feel it in my head,

I hear it in my ears,

Reverberating like a gong

Head underwater,

No sound but pain.

My nerves are twisted

Like hot wires, tingling

Pulsating

Squirming...

The fever overtakes me

Sweat prickles on my neck

Runs down my back,

Sopping rivulets

Spreading like an inkblot.

Trembling fingers

Raise the token to my lips,

The taste is vile

But I swallow.

I know relief will come...

But I know

I should have remembered

To take my pill on time tonight.
