Chosen, Called, Comforted

Tune: Langran

('Here, O my Lord, I see thee face to face')

2 Thessalonians 2 v.13-17

*******

Brethren, believers, beloved of the Lord

God has from the beginning, sure His word

Has chosen you to salvation, 'tis through

Sanctification of the Spirit true

And through belief of the truth, whereunto

He called you by the gospel, even you

To the obtaining of the glory bright

Of our Lord Jesus Christ, light to our sight

So brethren, stand fast, hold to true teachings

Which you have been taught, word, epistle brings

Knowledge of the way, guide on the path strait

Where we have entered through the narrow gate*

Now our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, so be

And God, even our Father, who loved, see

Loved us, an has given us e'erlasting

Consolation, good hope through grace, we sing

May He comfort your hearts, and establish

You in every good work and word and wish

Comforted until Day of Lord appears

Then shall His dawning solace all our tears

----------------

* These can be interchangeable.

It can also be -  narrow path and strait gate.

interesting orchidee.. tis good that you indicate alternative wording is possible.. didn't you just know those asterisks would just come in handy one day.... Neville

Thanks Neville. Ooh yes asterisks, and a bit more from those Thessaly folk. Not another whole series though. It all Greek to you? Think that's where Thessaly is.

      • Nicholas Browning

I really hope Finch reads this.

        • orchidee

Thanks Nicholas. Tis truths, yet sometimes seeming wrapped up in flowery words, and with a 'finale' verse sometimes, yet true! Meanwhile - you been to Thessaly? I haven't!
