Set Sail!

Nicholas Browning

Formless sky of sunlit wonder,

Mending the backdrop, it sets a tone -

Providing the lost with ample shelter,

And bestowing creation a gleeful home.

Sunshine refracts from crystal spires,

Of clear water painted blue.

The island's jewels waving swell morn! -

Encased in a golden avenue.

Chordata benign, aloof in spirit,

Align and erect a display -

That countless men would plead to see,

On the coming hour of any day!

Air of salt, as if ecstatic to bring -

Fair tidings along with best wishes it sings,

"Set sail, good men! The weather, it is fine." -

And all we do hence is follow that gentle tide!

  • Comment from author about the poem: Hello, friends! Quite happy with the way this piece turned out. The seemingly-fantasy aspect was inspired by Sirs Michael Edwards and The Finch of Gold. The whole thing is a giant metaphor for feeling alright, and being willing to try. Also, "Chordata" basically means sea-life in this context. Well, I hope you enjoy. If you do, then my job is done. See ya, folks!

One step closer to sitting at the same table as you! Although, I can't draw very well. (Don't tell Orch!)
Thank you very much for your saying so, Michael - It has made the work worth it all on its own.
