Saturday nights were special,
Back in those far off days.
Those days of beer and darts,
And days of carefree ways.
Saturday nights were special,
Us three in suit and ties.
Drinking pints of Courage ale,
Three happy selfless guys.
Saturday nights were special,
For Joe and Jack and me.
Always found together,
Single and fancy free.
Saturday nights were special,
When we went to the club,
As a change from the norm,
Of drinking in the pub.
The club was for working men,
And Saturdays they held a dance,
As we walked in the bar,
We gave the room a glance.
The parents would grab their daughters,
As we looked round the room,
But we went in the men only bar,
And to the snooker room.
As we walked our slow way home,
Full of beer and song,
We would sing those songs of rugby,
With words both right and wrong.
We never caused any trouble,
During those endearing years,
Looking back to then from now,
To my eyes brings many tears.
Jack’s gone to the pub in heaven,
And Joe went his own ways.
But Saturday nights were special,
Back in those far off days.

Good write Gold. Saturday nights are horrible for the road sweepers in our town. Well, Sunday mornings it look like a rubbish dump in places.
We didn’t notice, too busy drinking and singing.
I really like this, man.
A great read.
Thank you Nicholas, back in the day eh?
Such a walk down memory lane reminded me of a old song - - - "Those were the days my friend - we thought they'd never end".Good to think back and give tribute to pals . Thanks for the read dear Goldy
They were great days.
This is a real delight and will appeal without doubt to anyone that used a pub when pubs were pubs and had sensible opening hours and darts n skittles and .... nice one GF60.... N
Very true Neville, we played darts and cards, certainly no music or slot machines. The manners were always good as well if a bad word slipped out an apology followed if there were ladies nearby.
them were the days....
Now that sir is a great nostalgic write!
"Can it be that it was all so simple then Or has time rewritten every line And if we had the chance to do it all again Tell me would we could we?" (Gladys Knight)
Yes, things were oh so different then.
They certainly were. Thanks for your comments.
So many memories, so many Saturday nights, in reality pretty much the same here. Good friends, good beer, good times. Brought back a wave of memories . Thanks GF60. -Phil A.
Those memories are special to us all, thank you for your comments Phil, much appreciated.
THANKS UNCLE ANDY : I (Angela) was born in 1988 so by the time I was allowed in a UK Bar !(2006) it was the 21st C and in Towns the World you speak of had dissappered ! Girls played ARROWS just as good as the Boys and there were no segregated Bars ! I've seen old Films and Town Centre Pubs have morphed into wine Bars & Fine Dining. Having been raised in a Spanish Family (in the UK) our attitude to Alcohol is very different. Wine is very much part of the Cuisine for for drinking & cooking etc and I can say "Mano a Corazon !" I have never been drunk and incapable ! Mucho des Tapas ! Even @ the tender age of 30 (31 soon !) I too have Memories : especialamente ha visitado a Mis Abuelas (Grandparents) en Sevilla en Julio y Natale ! See how easy Spanish is ! Loved the BACH : Perfection ! When Im in England BRIAN & I like to visit Villiage Pubs to catch the ambience and to make sure they have draft (or bottled) San Miguel & sell Rioja by the Glass !
Blessings & Love to You & Joyce
Tu AMIGA : ANGELA 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
Cinco carazones especialamente por Tus
Es 9 horas en la Manana : miercoles aqui !
Thank you Angela. Those times were so special and are not seen any more, the segregated bars only seemed to be in Working Mens Clubs and Golf Clubs. The pub which was my local had public and saloon bars, the public bar was for the riff-raff like me and the saloon bar was for the 'posher' people. There was a great camaraderie in the bar and never any trouble - great times.
Reminds me of my carefree days. Yes, long long time ago.
Thanx for the memories
Yes time flies Suresh, those memories are so special.
