Tune: St Theodulph
('All glory, laud, and honour')
Matthew 21 v.1 - 11 parts
*********
Chorus
Prepare the royal pathway
'Hosanna, Save Lord', say
Seated on humble beast, He
Comes, brings salvation, see
Triumphant this His entry
To Jerusalem be
Yet meek, lowly, and friendly
Serves God acceptably - Chorus
Very great multitude there
Saw donkey, which did bear
The Saviour of the world sure
Atoning One e'ermore - Chorus
Garments and palm branches spread
On the road, they did tread
Going before and after
Jesus, voices did stir - Chorus
Hosanna be to the Son
Of David, He the One
Blessed He that comes in the name
Of the Lord, Christ the same - Chorus
On arrival, the city
Was moved, said, Who this be?
Reply, Jesus the prophet
Of Nazareth, none fret - Chorus
Look, see, do you this King know
And Lord, no battle-bow
He brings, nor war-horse sturdy
But humility free - Chorus
Ride on to your destiny
Though crowds would fickle be
Rejoicing now, but later
They would to hatred stir - Chorus
Yet triumph through suffering
Cross before crown did bring
Help us to faithful follow
And constant your ways go - Chorus

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem with verses and chorus in 7.6.7.6. metre. It brings in the mystery of suffering. 'No crown before the cross' has become somewhat of a standard phrase. Make of it what you will.

when you feel it hurting, the mystery of suffering goes write out the bloomin window...... Just thought I would get in first for once..... N
Thanks N - you chopping down those palms? It don't help for conservation, but was right for that time.
............................................................................ 🙂
Maybe some complained, being PC, that cutting down the palms was not helping conservation. Eh?
I was just thinning out the thicket...
They were 'strawing' their garments in the way too, on the road. Did any think 'I've just brought this new coat recently, now a donkey's trampling over it - with muddy paws?' But that too was right for the occasion at the time.
THANKS UNCLE STEVE ~ For a great Golden Oldie for Palm Sunday ~ no modern Hymn could do it justice. Your Poem descibes exactly what I saw in Obberamagau in 2000 and also what You & Uncle Andy saw in AD 33 ~ AMEN ! Thanks for your Saturday uplift !
Love to you & Fido ~ will He get an EGG next week ?
Blessings BRIAN & ANGELA 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
Thanks B&A. Yep, I was there for the original in about 821AD. There's 'Make way, make way, for Christ The King'. One of your favourites, Brian Kendrick? That's a good one too. I'm only against 'endless choruses' plus them being sung 3 or 4 weeks in a row - laziness in not bothering to select different songs! I mean sung about 500 times in a row, or seems like it. lol.
Noooooo, not a choccy egg for Fido, it would kill him off. A normal egg maybe. He will sit down to bacon and eggs.
Good one Orchi.
Thanks Gold.
Just in time for Palm Sunday Orchidee. Thank you for brining it alive in your writings.
Thanks Gary.
