Our Song For The Departed (Loving Laughter)

Nafis Light

We are all gathered here tonight
around this campfire;
Under the moonlight
for a moment...for you and for all.

May we remember you all with your smiles;
May we remember your moments that bring joy;
May we remember your love and how it felt like;
For you all...we pray and sing;
Dancing, smiling, and laughing...
...to continue on making moments of love and laughter.

So that the days of today and tomorrow
be filled...with Loving Laughter;
So that all the smiles, love, and laughter grow
making the world sweeter, brighter, and happier.

With Prayers, Hope, and Laughter

  • Comment from author about the poem: I was watching the last episode of a TV Series and it was in a scene where a group of friends around a campfire singing to mourn a friend who died in the episode. They all sang the song 'a-ha - Take On Me', but in a more slow, emotional, and sad tune. The moment made me to create this.

    A good write J. One hymn is 'Lord of the Dance'. The author tones it down with Jesus' sufferings, and includes the line: 'It's hard to dance with the devil on your back', though still having the element.
    of 'dance'. Dance can also mean rhythm, step, pace, etc of life.

      I finished watching a lyric video of that hymn, and it didn't give me that positive feeling...and it's probably due to certain associations including the use of the word 'devil' (that's not a positive word).

      Possibly in the future...when the writing is about dance (the steps, paces, and rhythms and all), because this one is about remembering them.

      So basically like...people gather together to pray for the ones passed away, but remember the good times and then continue on making positive things/moments in life.

        Thanks J. I can see how they remember happy events, moments, etc, and continue being positive.
        I didn't like that hymn at first, from the aspect it was too 'modern' for me. Then I got to like it, though it has some necessarily 'negative' words in it too, I think. I don't think the author means one literally dances when being put to death (who would?!), but he tries to bring in the theme of 'dance' into the whole hymn. I feel he does succeed!

        Better than one hymn/chorus anyway. I can't imagine it sung in some places: 'Now the song... 'I wanna scream it out from every mountain top'. I just wanna cringe then, until the song is over! Then they are likely to have it about 3 weeks in a row too. Arrgghh!
