Prayers In Perils

Tune: Wolvercote

(one tune to 'O Jesus I have promised')

Psalm 57

********

O God, be merciful to me

Look on my troubles, see

For my soul trusts in you, I shall

Take refuge in you well

In the safe shadow of your wings

My refuge, my soul sings

Here I abide till troubles past

They not for ever last

I will cry to God most high

His presence it be nigh

He performs all things for me

They from His wisdom be

He shall send from heaven to

Save me, good to me do

Rescue me from enemies

They shall not on me seize

He shall send His truth and mercy

Though my soul here it be

Among lions, even fierce

Men, who would sure me pierce

Their spears and arrows appear

As sharp teeth to me here

And their tongues would speak me harm

Yet I in the Lord calm

Be exalted, O God, I pray

Above heavens alway

Let your glory be above

All the earth, show your love

Though enemies prepare net

And pit, I am safe yet

For they have in their traps fell

I through the Lord do well

My heart is fixed, O God, and I

With my heart make reply

To you, I will sing and praise

And wake early my days

Awake my tongue, and psaltery

And harp full tuneful be

I will praise you midst people

And sing midst nations all

For your mercy is great to

The heavens, it is true

And your truth great to the clouds

Your care it us surrounds

Yes, be exalted, God, I pray

Above heavens alway

Let your glory be above

All the earth, show your love
